This City Gal

I could never live in the countryside. I love the hustle and bustle and the energy of city living. My favourite type of holiday is a city break, most recently I have visited Stockholm, Sweden and Krakow, Poland . At the end of this month I have a trip planned to Barcelona, Spain.
My favourite cities I have been to are New York , San Francisco, London and Paris. I am determined to live in either Paris or NYC for a while!

Photoshop fun ?

I could never be a Graphic Designer , I can barely grasp photoshop.
Here is a 1st attempt:

Pathetic I know, hoping I will get the hang of it!

Flower Child

Recently I watched the film Dazed and Confused, a coming of age comedy set in the 70's starring a young Ben Affleck, Matthew Mc Connaughey and Milla Jovovich (pictured above !) It was actually quite hilarious and reminded me how much I like 'that 70's style'. One of my favourite films is Almost Famous, both for the soundtrack and the wardrobe. Kate Hudson's character Penny Lane's style is incredible!

Fashion Houses like Missoni and Chloé have long had a 70's vibe. Now everyone has caught on and 70's style has arrived for spring summer '11. I can't wait to try out an updated version of the this trend.
The 70's was the era where anything goes. Mini, midi or maxi skirts, bellbottoms and flares, culottes and hotpants, halterneck jumpsuits, kimonos, gypsy tops, crochet knits. All accessorised with chunky platforms and headbands!
The modern take on 70's style is less boho hippie and more glam.... for an everyday updated look integrate one or two key pieces into your outfit!

Fascination

If you're like me and are completely intrigued and captivated by other people's personal style, indulge your inner nosy parker by checking out this amazing website stylelikeu
Be warned it is quite addictive.

I first discovered StyleLikeU a couple of years ago when I was supposed to be studying for my summer exams at university. Needless to say I spent far more time watching interviews on it than doing my college work...ooops

You'll find intimate interviews and a peak into the wardrobes of some of the most stylish and imaginative men and women of NYC and further afield. It seriously gives you an insight into the minds of truly creative people.

Creators of the site, mother and daughter Elisa Goodkind and Lily Mandelbaum last month released a book version. It is certainly on my To Buy list!

I heart Scandinavia

Scandinavian style stands out to me. I am obsessed with Ikea. The simple beauty of Swedish homes as seen on the blog my scandinavian retreat  or the easygoing and effortless way that Caroline and her stylish compatriots dress really inspires me. Sometimes I have the urge to throw on a floral dress bursting with colour but mostly I feel comfortable wearing simple outfits in muted tones of black, grey, white, cream, brown and beige. Maybe I'm boring but sometimes simplicity says more.....
I recently visited the beautiful city of Stockholm where I was really amazed about how stylish the people are. I can't wait to go to Copenhagen next.

Here is my idea of a perfect casual outfit inspired by the stylish ladies I saw in Stockholm all from Topshop

Sun is Shining

The weather in Ireland is very strange,it is not unusual to see all four seasons in the one day! Today, the sun was shining and it was warm enough to leave the house with only a light jacket. This evening would be perfect for a BBQ.
Although it is only April I can feel summer approaching and I'm feeling excited about ice cream cones, sun holidays, bright evenings, beer gardens, summer dresses and sandals, walks on the beach, leafy trees and having a tan...eventually!

Not so excited for the bluebottle flies ew and the stuffy heat when in work - got a taste today as air con was broken. I suppose you have to take the bad with the good

A New Beginning

" From small beginnings come great things" Well that's what I'm hoping for anyway! I have been addicted to reading fashion, lifestyle and interior design blogs for the past couple of years. After a hard day I enjoy nothing more than to curl up on the couch with a cup of tea and my laptop and read my favourite blogs! So I decided it was time to start my own little cub... The Polka Leopard.
I haven't really planned exactly what I will post, just stuff that's on my mind, and anything which inspires me and makes me happy....
